Latest S&P Tankers Market Report, updated 08 March 2010:
There has been sustained enquiry in the tanker S&P sector this week, with the majority of buyers seeking out modern tonnage. However, there is still some way to go before we reach the equilibrium between buyers and sellers price expectations that could spark the rush of sales the level of enquiry promises.
All five sales this week fall into the older sectors. Clients of the Spanish owners Marflet have sold the Croatian built chemical tanker “TEAM ANEMONIA” (40,296 dwt, built 1995 Brod. Uljanik D/B, coated) to undisclosed buyers for close to $4.5m. Just two years ago, buyers would have had to fork out in excess $21m for this same D/B unit. Also of Eastern European build, Clients of Latvian Shipping have sold the following two D/H coated Handysize tankers en-bloc for $8.5m to Nigerian interests; namely, the “MT ZOJA II” (28,610 dwt, built 1989 Kherson Shipyd.) and its 1988 built sister “ZOJA I”. Of smaller tonnage, South American buyers have paid $5.85m for the IMO III rated chemical tanker “GEMPORT-2” (6,555 dwt, built 1998 Shitanoe Zosen) and clients of MISC have sold the IMO II rated “MT BUNGA SEMARAK” (15,999 dwt, built 1990 Sabah Shipyard) to Indonesian buyers for $2.5m.
