November saw firm contracts placed for eight containerships, with four different owners inking orders. The Hanjin Subic yard in the Philippines won two of the orders: firstly from clients of NSC Schiffahrt for a pair of 9,200 TEU boxships. The deal is understood to hold options for up to four additional vessels, at a reported price of $81.65m per ship. The two firm units are scheduled to be delivered in July and September 2014. Meanwhile, Aeolos Management also placed an order at the yard, the Greek owner contracting 2+2 x 6,800 TEU vessels, to complement the three containerships of similar size ordered at Hyundai Samho last year. The new orders, scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2014, are understood to have cost $57m per ship. Elsewhere, STX Shipbuilding won an order for 1+1+1+1 x 5,000 TEU containerships from Korea Marine Transport. The firm vessel is scheduled to be delivered in 1H 2014, at a price of $44.5m. In addition, STX announced that they have agreed to switch an existing order from Fratelli D’Amato from two VLCCs to 3 x 9,200 TEU boxships, for a new contract price of $88.15m per vessel.
